Why Identity Is Important
The reason that identity is important is because it helps shape our behavior and "sense" of our own personality (Whittleston). If we have the knowledge of what we want in life and things we have interests in, it will make it easier to connect and interact with people of similar and/or opposite identities. Having a developed identity means accepting or agreeing to (more likely) a side of beliefs. And if we have a set ideology on a belief, it fastens and increases your confidence in the decision-making processes on hard and controversial topics. Identity commitment is not set in stone and could be changed. Marcia described the change in identity status as "MAMA cycles" which means "changes from moratorium to achievement to moratorium to achievement"
