It would be a lot easier if colleges lowered their college tuition so that students would be able to attend college.
By doing this, student wouldn’t end up with a large debt after graduating. Seniors in college wouldn’t have an overwhelming debt if the tuition rates decreased. In the article, Pros and Cons Argument: Is a College Education Worth It?, is states, “in 2012 there were 6.9 million student loan borrowers aged 50 and over who collectively owed $155 billion with individual average balances between $19,521 and $23,820”. Once students graduate, they still need time to find a job, meanwhile, their debt continues to rise. This proves that by raising college tuition, it has only caused students that have graduated to have a large debt many years
later.
Although lowering college tuition will cause colleges to have less money for their faculty, sports arenas, research and more, they will still benefit from lowering their tuition. In the article, Pros and Cons Argument: Is College Education Worth it?, it mentions, “Over 25% of students who enroll in college do not return for the second year. About 44% of students at four-year colleges dropped out according to a Feb. 2011 study”. This has caused many students to waste their money and also the government’s money. Drop out rates would lower if tuition prices went down because students wouldn’t have to worry as much about trying to earn up money for their debts. Colleges would have an easier time with students paying back their debts if tuition wasn’t as high.
As much as students want to attend college, the issue suddenly comes down to the increasing rate on tuition. Students are having a hard time with the large debts that they end up with once they have graduated. It’s becoming harder for students and even parents to be able to pay for a college education. If tuition decreased it would help students to be able to finish paying college before graduation and there would also be a less dropouts during college.
