    1984 Rhetorical Analysis

By using this tone, the reader is happy and remembers all of the things that a caring person has done selflessly for them. An example of this tone in the passage could be when Winston is talking about the woman, he says “The woman down there had no mind, she had only strong arms, a warm heart, and a fertile belly.” This quote makes the woman sound very motherly and also that she is devoted to her family and to make them happy. This is very personal for most readers because they may know a person with these attributes or they may even have these attributes. In this quote, you can see in Winston that he admires her devotion to her family and that she is strong and supportive of her kin. This could possibly mean that he misses a person with those attributes in his life and that is why he is so respectful of the woman. Another thing that makes this passage seem happy was the way that Orwell writes Winston’s description of the environment that they are in. He says, “He had the feeling that the sky had been washed too, so fresh and pale was the blue between the chimney pots.” The diction in this quote, using very calm and kind of refreshing words like pale and fresh, makes you feel calm and happy. That is important because those words were put there to make you feel happy and calm. There are other words that could have been put there to make you feel anxious or stressed such as, blank or empty. By using the words that he did, Orwell was able to create a calm environment for both Winston and the…

In this 1500 word essay I thought that I would talk about what has been one of the top talks in Canada for the last couple of months, Idle No More. Idle No More is an ongoing protest movement originating among the Aboriginal peoples in Canada comprising the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples and their non-Aboriginal supporters in Canada, and to a lesser extent, internationally. It has consisted of a number of political actions worldwide, inspired in part by the liquid diet hunger strike of Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence and further coordinated via social media. I want to make the people aware of what is happening. I want them to realize what the Aboriginal people are doing to help and how others can also help.…

    Ethnic Conflict In Iraq

Upon marching into Iraq in 2003, American forces were tasked with deposing Saddam Hussein and imposing stability and security. The former was accomplished with stunning rapidity; the latter continues to elude Iraqis, regional interests, and the Western world almost fifteen years later. Why such chaos? Even the American “surge” of soldiers in 2007 did little to quell the violence. Ethnic conflict between the Kurds, Sunnis, and Shias, extant prior to American involvement, intensified post-invasion.…
