There was an interview done with Alicia Keys, they asked her what the moment was when she decided to become a part of Keep a Child Alive. “As part of this desire to better understand the country, a friend wanted me to see the human impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
So she took me many places—to clinics and to homes and groups where kids orphaned by the HIV/AIDS crisis were living. I met some of the most incredible people, ranging in ages from babies to people close to my age at the time, and I got to hear their stories. We were instantly connected! These were people! Not numbers, not different than our own brothers and sisters or nieces and nephews. I couldn’t pretend that my eyes hadn’t been opened, and we as a global community could not forget or neglect them.
