Why Is Arthur Russell So Important To Me
Aaron Maine spoke with RIFF Magazine to discuss his upcoming tour, his latest album and finding inspiration
Arthur Russell may very well be the greatest musician no one has ever heard and in spite of never formerly releasing an album, Russell was equally one of the most hardworking. In fact, we are past his untimely death in 1994 and are still listening to “new” reworkings of his music till this very day.
“There’s something undeniably special charming and brilliant about [Russell]... What an amazing effect he’s had on the world and musicians and it’s sad that he wasn't really met with that while he was alive. I think that’s a large part of the inspiration for me.”

Speaking of working with other artists, Maine, and his actress/singer-songwriter girlfriend Kaya Wilkins have not only shared each other's love with one another but their mutual love of making music. In fact, Wilkins’ (under the stage name Okay Kaya) presence on The House is felt through her enchanting vocal performance on the track “Åkeren,” which is a Norwegian reiteration of a poem Maine had written in the past. Nevertheless, on “ICU,” the first single off of Okay Kaya’s upcoming debut album, Maine has lent his own hand and even hinted that he contributed even more on her yet-to-be-released debut.
