Why Is Black History So Important To Me Essay

Our history has become diverse: different ethnic history that becomes part of the nation’s history. Our nation, the United States, even requires kids to take history classes so everyone is aware of significant and insignificant events that occur in the past. Though some parts were good others were harmful. We learn about our nations and ancestor’s past so we don’t have to repeat the events and suffered devastating consequences. We have designated the month of February as Black History both, though there is some occurrence that not even one moth could held, some appreciation is better than none.

For the celebration of Black History Month, I have chosen one photograph that will give a sneak peak of life in the 1950’s, the years of segregation. From the Lens of Dallas website, I chosen a photograph that was taken on June 26, 1954. The picture depict Thurgood Marshall, speaking with a group of reporters during a NAACP Convention held in Dallas. Thurgood Marshall was not only the special counsel for the NAACP but also a U.S. Supreme Court justice. He did so much for not only Dallas but for the country. During the court case of Brown vs. Board of Education, which held that segregation was violating the fourteenth and Equal Protection Clause.

Maybe my time was not meant to be there but my existence was meant here with the beautiful aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement. By having Thurgood <Marshall being part of the NAACP convention in Dallas, he motivated and inspired all minorities to take a stand to better the world for the next generation. Without photographs like this, our history and imprints would be gone forever. These pictures are meant to be an inspiration for everyone forever. I reminder of the past to uplift the
