Is Bread Bad For Your Health?

It is generally accepted by dieticians and nutritionists that white bread and refined grains have a low nutritional value. For that reason we have been encouraged to eat wholegrains instead. However, in recent years, the benefits of bread in general, even wholegrain bread, has been questioned. There are several reasons why bread may not actually be healthy for us.

Firstly, bread is high in carbohydrates and this can lead to a sudden spike in our blood sugar levels. Bread is usually made from grains which are milled into a very fine flour which can be digested quickly but also releases glucose swiftly into the bloodstream causing a rapid spike in blood sugar levels.
