Capital punishment argument Why is it that some criminals serve time in jail for their actions and others are sentenced to death? For a long time capital punishment has been used in the U.S and other countries as a form of punishment for crime. Some offenses punishable by death are murder, treason, espionage and machine gunning. Many countries have abolished the use of capital punishment believing it to be an unfair inhumane act. Capital punishment is wrong because it puts innocent lives at risk and it does not deter crimes from happening. The solution is to abolish the death penalty and sentence criminals to life in prison without possibility of parole. Many agree that the death penalty is not wrong because it keeps innocent people safe and the threat of death does deter crime from happening.
The death penalty is a problem because innocent people can be put to death for being wrongly accused of committing a crime. Sometimes innocent people are blamed for crimes they did not commit because of racial prejudice and police misconduct. A large amount of people who have been on death …show more content…
To get rid of the death penalty would free criminals of the consequences of committing atrocious crimes. Capital punishment deters criminals from committing heinous crimes because criminals value their life just like anyone else. Criminals who receive the death penalty usually try to have their sentence changed to life in prison. People feel bad for someone who receives the death penalty but they do not realize how dangerous and cold blooded that person can be. Criminals know they are vulnerable so they have to try and gain sympathy by saying that they did not think about the consequences of his actions. This might show that capital punishment deters crimes from happening because if a criminal thinks about the consequences of his actions it might keep him from harming
