Why Is Chris Not Adventurous
Courageous and Adventurous. In his pursuit of happiness, he travelled 11,731 miles. People wouldn’t go that length for most things. He traveled on foot, through untouched wilderness, gang filled cities, and even across national borders. He taught himself how to hunt animals, collect fresh water and separate the poisonous plants. To say that Chris was not adventurous is a sin. He also hitchhiked with possibly hundreds of strangers. This takes courage to trust people’s good intentions. He did all this to search for something that most people do not have these days, happiness.

Many people he sees and meets along the way have warned him about the dangers of traversing the wilderness, alone with very little supplies and experience. After journeying into the deep Alaskan wilderness, Chris's actions show that with ignorance to small details, suffering will soon follow.…

He wanted to be like other noble authors like Tolstoy , Jack London, etc. To live up to their expectations. Such as leaving everything behind. He donated all his money to a charity. Then McCandless died being brave and different than other for believing what he thinks is right. McCandless could have lived on and tell his story if he survived none of his favorite authors died doing what McCandless did. Since Chris died attempting to do that he failed others see it as he died doing what he thought was right. He burned his money he had left in pocket why not give it to someone like how he donated the money or was it a fast way to get rid of a plethora of money. In my opinion McCandless is a narcissistic bastard not telling his loved ones that he will be off alone in Alaska.…

Chris got so caught up in the books about nature that he felt it must be true. One of his favorite authors, Jack London, had barely even lived in the wild but Chris was to caught up in the fictional stories to realize that. He even chose epigraphs from his readings about the beauty and joy of nature. Even in his final goodbye notes he left quotes from authors he had read. He was about to die and he was still doing this, it shows you how crazy he was to get that caught up in his readings in the first place. Also a majority of what Chris had brought with him on his journey was books, instead of proper supplies or equipment that could have saved his life. Due to his sensitivity and craziness, Chris died. He was emaciated by the time his final days drew to a close. He should have just left the wild and came back to civilization, content with his adventure.…

Looking over a couple theories that related to Chris and his family, it seemed like attachment theory fit best. I believe that attachment theory is best for Chris because he had that secure attachment with his mom that allowed him branch out and do something completely unexpected of him. He knew that if anything went wrong he had someone there who had his back, which was his mom and sister. That knowledge of security allowed him to go on this journey and experience the unknown. Attachment theory, established by John Bowlby, is a set a concepts that are used to explain the emergence of the emotional bond that forms between an infant and their primary caregiver. It then goes on to explore that way in which the bond affects the child’s emotional…
