Why Is Christopher Columbus Bad
You may have heard of Christopher Columbus, and that he has his own day on the calendar. But do you know of all the things he’s done to trample his own reputation? He’s enslaved hundreds of Natives and had them know that there would be consequences for any mistakes made. He was careless and had treated them very poorly, some had even died due to them being exposed to foreign diseases! These are just a few things that make me believe that Christopher Columbus was a villain.

Columbus did not care in the world for the Natives, and that was when the people of the land began to get really sick. It was because Columbus and his crew had brought foreign diseases that these people had never encountered before. ”Columbus brought African slaves and Europeans who carried diseases with them which completely wiped out the native population.” Just the fact that Columbus and his men were there, was causing death and anguish. The Natives had lost families, their friends, and their leaders due to his carelessness.

However, he did write in his journal that gives us a clear view of what he wanted to do with the Native Americans. “They would make fine servants.With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.”This was after his first encounter with the Natives, he described them as if they were just tools meant to be used.
