If we are to appreciate, analyze and improve clinical decision making, it is important that, in addition to understanding the features of the immediate clinical problem, we state the contextual factors that are taken into account when making decisions. Nowadays evidenced based practice is used to improve quality of clinical practice. If the FNP is to promote effective decision making, she will have to have the knowledge and experience to focus on the entire problem at hand rather than the immediate problem.
