in the areas of art, science, and mathematics, were just some of the “highest order and worthy of emulation by the Romans and others.” One very famous mathematician of the Greeks was Pythagoras of Samos. According to Robert Guisepi, Pythagoras must have been “one of the world’s greatest men.” Pythagoras is the founder the Pythagorean Theorem, still used today. He based his systems off his mathematical regularities. This included the Pythagorean Theorem. Another Greek that contributed to the Greek achievements was Heraclitus of Ephesus. Heraclitus saw himself as an oracle sage, and he wanted to provoke his students to have a deeper reflection. He felt that the “divine essence was the underlying force of things” (Dutton 49). He is well remembered today by his saying about the river never being the same because it captures how he was trying to go beyond the surface of things.
The ancient Greek civilization had many contributions that helped explain its significance in history. Such as its culture and economies. Many of these contributions are still used to this day.
