These essays may vary in length from 500 words to ten pages. As a potential student or recipient of a scholarship, you must be prepared to develop an essay that is both appropriate in content and correctly formatted.
In this week’s lesson you will further develop your ability to meet the expectations associated with creating written work at the college level. Using Microsoft Word, you will create the basic format for writing a report. Using the five part (or paragraphs) technique, you will create a rough outline for developing a report based on the topics given.
For each of the five topics listed below, you will create an introductory paragraph (including a thesis statement), list the three supporting ideas you would use in writing this report, and create a very brief statement of conclusion.
Points to remember:
The first paragraph is the introduction.
The last paragraph is the conclusion (or summary).
Remember that all essays should contain a thesis statement which is given in the introductory paragraph.
Paragraphs two through four are the body of the essay and should contain three points (one in each paragraph) that support the thesis statement.
Topics:
1. Describe why your college education or technical training is important to you.
2. “What are my Future Plans/Career Goals After High School?”
3. Tell us about a struggle in your life and how you handled it.
4. Who is an inspiration to you and why?
5. What makes being a VOE student special?
An example of how you should complete each table is listed at the very end of this lesson.
