However this wasn't always the case. In America’s past African Americans were only seen as slaves. They were suppose to be obedient and do what the white man told them. However few of them fought against that. They ran away from their slave masters into Northern states or Canada. They would petition in Washington. And soon Abraham Lincoln would pass the emancipation proclamation to let african americans have their freedom. But this did not end discrimination. Many africans were still denied the basic rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Key leaders like MLK started the Civil Rights movement through protesting.
