The Keeper is very passionate when it comes to sharing his knowledge about the Ojibway values. This may be because he realizes that the cultural values are gradually going extinct due to the influence of modernity and the only way to keep them alive is to share them. Garnets interest in his culture got intrigued by the Keeper discussing his grandfather, which was an effective method to catch his attention because it made a connection between them. He tells a story about his Uncle Gilbert who battles with an addiction. The Keeper is portraying the missing role model in Garnets life. He is providing him with guidance towards his true reality, which is important because Garnet has been detached from his true self so it would be difficult for him to do it on his own. Garnet does not possess much knowledge when it comes to his native history or spirituality. The keeper can help guide him on a path towards that and help Garnet incorporate his native traditions in his modern way of living, without giving it up
