Why is healthcare a social concern? It probably has to do with the wide range of people that are affected by it. Healthcare and not having healthcare is not just confined to one particular population, but it is a huge concern for all Americans. It is the concern of whether or not a family can buy their sick child the prescription she or he needs or put food on the table. Situations like this are inhuman; people should not have to choose between medicine and food. A healthcare system should be there to help people when they are sick, not cause them to be broke and still sick. I believe that healthcare should be a right; too many people in the United States are foregoing medical treatment and are dying because they do not have health insurance. Health Insurance should be required for all citizens. Not only will it guarantee all citizens the right to healthcare, but it will also be economically beneficial. If Healthcare is a right, is it practical for our economy, and worth the American citizens paying thousand of dollars a year? I, on one hand, see why both sides of the argument make sense. I believe that healthcare should be a right, even though I am a little skeptical of the idea myself. However, I know that it is not right for people to live their lives sick and in fear of going to the hospital because of how much it could cost them to receive medical care. All citizens in America should have a right to healthcare regardless of the cost. There is no reason people should have to choose between healthcare and whether to eat.
