The key issue in the case study is leadership and leadership styles. While it appears that the assistant principal was reassigned due to his appearance, the assistant principal’s appearance reflected a leadership style that the superintendents felt was not in the best interest of the school and chose not to support. In addition, the reassignment of the assistant principal sends a message to the school principal to pay closer attention to the leadership messages of his staff as they are a reflection on the school and its leadership including the principal and superintendents. Clawson (2009) notes that going through the day without really observing or thinking about what’s taking place around them is a common habit that people lapse into. In this case the principal appeared to “go with the flow” in regards to the assistant principal, which in the superintendents minds may have signaled a laissez-faire leadership style toward the assistant principal. Northouse (2009) explains that some have labeled that style “nonleadership.” More, under laissez-faire leadership, subordinates have freedom to do pretty much what they want to do whenever they want to do it. The major effect is that very little is accomplished because people are directionless, find the atmosphere chaotic, and are at a loss to know what to do. So, they tend to do nothing. While in some situations, people will thrive on this direction-less freedom, laissez-faire leadership will be unsuccessful and unproductive (pp. 45). Challenging the status quo is an important leadership skill (Kouzes & Posner, 2007).” In their action, the superintendents were alerting the principal that he was leading a group of people, not just himself, and should have greater concern about what those who are following are doing. Furthermore, people are not only watching the leader. They are watching everyone in the organization, and so should the leader. Consistency between word and deed is not just created…
What if we all get fat? According to the Obesity Society this is already occurring; obesity is a disease that affects more than one-third of the U.S. adult population (approximately 78.6 million Americans). The number of Americans with obesity has steadily increased since 1960, a trend that has slowed in recent years but shows no sign of reversing. Today, 69 percent of U.S. adults are categorized as being affected by obesity or having excess weight (Obesity Society, 2014). Two factors are under consideration: Corporate or consumer responsibility. With the obseity trend seemingly growing, many propose a question that if these high calorie fast food chains should take responsibility for the growing number of obesity or is it all the consumers’ responsibility. Slowly, sandwich shops and healthy eateries popping up everywhere. Do fast food chains such as McDonalds and Taco Bell keep an competitive advantage by taking some responsibility of our overweight society? A huge factor is how these corporations identify and develop their corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR initiatives are a crucial component of a company’s strategy and the development of sustainable competitive advantage.…
There are many advantages and disadvantages of choosing to live in the country or to live in a city; such as social setting; air quality; employment; and entertainment. The advantages of living in a city outweigh the advantages of living in the country.…
Dying is part of the normal process of living, but that isn’t to say that dealing with death is an easy feat. Thus, it is important for nurses to understand their patients’ cultural background in order to provide culturally competent and compassionate care at the end of life. Culturally competent medical care for the dying patient by nurses and healthcare providers alike is a challenging task, especially when religious values, practices, and beliefs influence the treatment decisions for patients as the end of life nears. The purpose of this paper is to discover cultural practices among the Jewish community at the end of life.…
Growing up in the country is like a fresh breath of air, you need it but once you've taken it in your life gets infinity better. Like air, everyone needs family, someone to take care of or even to take care of you. There is no place to do that better than the country, there you can have both. I've had personal experience with growing up in the country and it is because of growing up where I did that made me the person I am today. Growing up in the country I always had my family not matter what, making those connections made it easy to stay connected to my family even now when we all don't live so close. I am one out of eight children also one of the oldest which meant I had to help with the younger siblings. I didn't mind, doing it actually helped me gain a great relationship with each of my siblings. Living out in the country not only gave me a chance to be with my brothers and sisters, but also my mother and father. I remember helping my father with the animals; horses, cows, chickens, you name it we had it.…
Growing up in small towns and big cities, both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Although it is a bit difficult to say that whether growing up in small town is more advantage than growing up in big cities, some people believe that growing up in a small town can be quite beneficial. Different people have different point of views, but I want to support my view with three advantages of growing up in a small town.…
My experience growing up in a small town was the fact that we all were safe in our elite community. What I enjoy most was running outside in the rain a small the dust from our unpaved roads, and playing hop scotch. We loved to play our games; such as: softball, red rover, Simon says, and a lot others. Walking the streets you could smell the different aromas of food cooking from each house. One of my favorite meals was moms’ fried chicken, homemade biscuits and baked apples.…
Another important advantage to the big city is the social life. Have you ever heard stories from teachers in school who grew up in the small town? They often tell about how the one time they accidently messed up, their parents knew before they could even get home. This is sad because it is the first time they mess up and have felt bad about it and should atleast be given the option to tell their parents. Also, people in the big city seem to be more friendly and will often try to help you out if you need it. The big city also offers teenagers a wide aray of things to do with their time, making it less likely for them to commit crimes or do drugs or drink or any other of these wrong things “I couldn't wait to move to the big city. Spoiled by wide-open space, living among apple orchards and redwoods, I yearned to live closer to movie theaters and fast food” (Sunset…
I find there are many reasons why I choose to live in a small town. I can form a truly deep friendship in a small town. The type of friendship that wasn’t form based on social status, but based on the character. Friends that I can depend on in times of need. Besides that, there aren’t many people live in a small town. Mostly people who live in a small town know each other. They are more friendly and care to others. Small towns give me the opportunity of receiving help when I need it. The other reason is about the nature. The environment in the small town is great. It is away from traffic jams, the noise and air pollution. I can enjoy the fresh air, clean water, and green scenery. Living in the small town is cheaper in many aspects. The cost to purchase a house or start a business in the small town are cheaper if I compare to a big city. The property taxes and the price of basic daily needs are also cheap.…
“There are things about growing up in a small town that you can’t necessarily quantify. ”--Brandon Routh. Growing up in a smaller town provided me with the exclusive benefit of spending more time with my family and friends. I was also able to dodge a hectic lifestyle that comes with living in a larger city.…
On the other hand, a good education is essential for career opportunities. Access to good jobs is another important reason why large cities are preferable to small towns. Aside from the fact that cities have a huge range of different jobs available, the larger and more successful companies are almost invariably located in big cities. Obviously, the possibility to get a good job in big city massively overweighs that in small towns. For example, a very good friend of mine had been looking…
It´s better to grow up in a big city than in a small town, because there are many advantages for children in big cities, as have a better education, have more opportunities, have a good quality of life, plus almost all of the places that children want to go are not far and finally children get more motivated and responsible.…
But, in a small town you can have a calm and healthy life without any stress far from the…
City life and country life are very different to each other. The bustling city is alive with people and activities, whereas the country is relaxed and quiet; but which is better? I strongly think that life in the country beats the city by far because of the better environment and friendlier community. The tranquil setting of the country is definitely superior compared to urban life, and is really appealing to everyone.…
