These were there for some reason, but why? This is still unknown, however, it did have many effects on society for more than five centuries. There were quite a few of these false labels put on the map, however the lie that stood out the more than any other false label on the map was the label “Antilhas”. These were actually the Indies Islands, but the Antilles were the islands that were shown on the map. Whoever the author of the map was purposely called the Indies Islands “Antilhas”. Why did the author do this? The reason why the author put these false labels down remains a mystery, but we do know that it was purposeful. This small piece of writing caused the world to have been lied to for over five centuries. The question is, how did this affect us in the past, and how does it have an effect on us now? It had a large impact on us in the past because nobody was able to prove otherwise. Everyone trusted this map, as it was the most detailed map of that time, and remained the most detailed map for a very long period of time. Not only did the Cantino Planisphere itself have a large impact on many generations, the taking of a copy of the Cantino Planisphere had a large impact on us. This was when Alberto Cantino took the Cantino Planisphere. The taking of the Cantino Planisphere had many effects on us, both in the time it was created to our generation today. One effect the taking of the Cantino Planisphere had on us was the fact that it spread the knowledge of the map. The Cantino Planisphere was originally a single map, made by an anonymous author in Portugal. The knowledge of the map wasn’t very widespread. However, after it was taken by Alberto Cantino, the map was turned into widespread knowledge. This is how the map became widespread knowledge, and led to having effects on us in the future, due to how accurate and detailed the map is. Another effect the taking of the map had on us was that it gave Italy more knowledge about other countries, specifically Portugal. Tensions were existing between Italy and Portugal, and the Cantino Planisphere gave Italy an extreme competitive advantage.
