The number of talented high school seniors applying to college has continued to grow each year. According to Petersons.com, the total number of high school graduates is projected to grow by 10 percent in 2017. That means thousands of more applicants are in the college admissions process. Yes there is enough space for the growing number of students graduating to attend college, but the most popular schools cannot accept everyone. However, I have also met teachers, coaches, and parents who would argue that sports are beneficial to the high school student-athlete in the classroom and on the court. In fact NYU did a study on a hundred high school students and found that out of the 74 students who played sports, they had an average GPA of 3.4. 0.5 points higher than the 26 other students who did not participate in sports. Sports have proven to be a stress reliever for high school students; however, that can be untrue. Along with the responsibility of finishing your homework and studying for tests, you also have to manage your time to play sports.
