Pujol’s family was of modest means, and retained liberal beliefs. He spent a large portion of his childhood in boarding school. It was a strict environment, allowing parental visitation once a week. Pujol dropped out of boarding school at 15, to his parents’ disappointment. Eventually he was able to enroll in college for animal husbandry. The nationalists had immense support from Nazi Germany and Italy, while the Russians gave support to the socialists and communists.
