Why Is Macbeth Still Relevant Today
I think Macbeth is still a relevant text for high school student. Why I think this is because Macbeth uses timeless themes and emotions in the story that some are still relevant today. Macbeth shows the characters point of view and their struggles. Macbeth also contains a complex story plot that shows cause and effect. Why people still enjoy Macbeth is partly because human nature hasn’t changed that much from Shakespearean Time to the 21st Century. What i’m trying to refer is that the play contains emotions that us humans still suffer with and that is Guilt, Paranoia, Jealousy, Greed and Murder.     We read Macbeth because Shakespeare’s plays are timeless in the lessons we can learn from them. Why do we read it when it wasn’t intended for schools and when Shakespeare uses a form of English that often differs from how we speak today? Yet Shakespeare gives us many valuable lessons to learn from his plays. For example, in the act Macbeth; Macbeth says “Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player/ that struts and frets his house upon the stage” and when Duncan says “that you can’t judge someone’s mind looking at his face”. He teaches us ambition, good and evil, power, appearance and reality, politics, the supernatural, and physical and mental illness. This is something we already live in the real world. Shakespeare teaches us that ambition can drive us to doing things we never thought we were capable of doing. Like when Macbeth killed Kind Duncan to become king, yet Duncan had been a good king to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth by letting them stay under the king’s roof and giving them good king men ship. The fact that he proves that good always wins and the evil is always victorious as long as it can last. He also lets us know that power can be wanted but not always be able to have it in possession and that’s where the ambitions drives us to commits evilness. The most important thing is that he teaches that our self-conscious will always follow us and may never let us sleep. In the case with Lady Macbeth, she at first was an evil women known with no heart but yet in the begging of act 5 she proves that she can longer live with herself and all the murders and crimes that were committed by her and Macbeth. Now Macbeth was the opposite because at the begging of the play he showed repentance and fear, then throughout the play his ambition drove him to forget about his conscious and got rid of everything and everyone that got in his way.     There are several other reasons why we are drawn to Macbeth. Shakespeare evokes sympathy from the readers. By creating a character similar to people, the readers agree with the decisions made by Macbeth and the circumstances he is in as they are shown from his point of view. Macbeth also showed that he had the potential to be a good king. He induced pity in the readers by showing himself agonizing between the glory in the path ahead of him and his conscience. I agree when you wrote ‘we pity him [Macbeth] because, like us, he stands next to innocence in a world in which veil is a prerequisite for being human,' and ‘to have a clear conscience is to stand in the sun.'
