The political leader who helped guide the Allied Powers to success during World War II, Winston Churchill, once said that he napped for at least an hour every afternoon, also adding that a nap could renew a person’s energy. When a person’s body rests during daily sleep and naps, it is part of a natural process to regain energy and alertness. Sleep deficiency affects your natural cycle and internal clock negatively. Sleeping and napping are both very valuable in sustaining a healthy mind and body. To start off, many people believe that napping and resting during the daytime is only for small children. The truth is that both children and adults can benefit from napping. “Scientific studies show the benefits that naps can provide for individuals with unusual work schedules,” (Source 2, Paragraph 13). People that occupy certain professions such as specific medical personnel and astronauts include napping as a part of their daily routines. It is not optional, it is vital to our health and well-being. “Bad sleep habits and long-term sleep loss will affect your health,” (Source 1, Paragraph 6). Sleep deficiency can lead to tiredness, drowsiness, a slow-functioning body and brain, as well as non-alertness during the day. It is essential for a person to sleep when their body is overworked and needs rest. A person should sleep the number of hours recommended for their age group. For example, preschool-aged children should sleep anywhere from 11-12 hours a day, (Source 1, Chart). The human body’s internal clock is not to be interrupted for the sake of our state of being, and that of everyone
else’s. Forthwith, many famous and well-known people napped to boost their energy and creativity. “Other famous historical nappers include the brilliant scientist Albert Einstein and the world changing inventor Thomas Edison. The amazing artist Leonardo Da Vinci also took naps,” (Source 2, Paragraph 12). The odd patterns and times that they worked, permitted them all to work and do what they liked in a more concentrated and creative way. In addition, political leaders and ancient emperors have been known to nap, as they thought and knew it was a way to restore energy and reboot creativity. In conclusion, maintaining an efficient brain along with a healthy body involves resting oneself through sleep and occasional naps. The value of sleeping and napping is significant in our everyday lives. This helps us stay alert and full of energy during the daytime. Present day, adults and many famous people nap.
