As we all know 9-11 has become the world’s memorable time alive.
The time when over thousands of Innocents lost their lives. I remember back in high school when we used to take moment of silence, but to think about it now many things have changed. The question was asked in a post of 9-11 world, how should we strike a balance between freedom and security? There are many answers to this question but every answer has a different meaning and history. Now throughout American history national security has been more important than civil liberties and freedom, of course. In post 9-11 Americans have traded some of their freedom and rights for security. This kind of security for century have taken some privacy rights of American citizens and increased the government's ability to spy on their own citizens. As a result, people have been less motivated to use their first amendment right especially if they feel they could be a terrorist. Although our freedom can be limited and less important, however when it comes to national security and protecting the citizens from terrorists, people should always pay the cost of
that. However, there may be some that argue freedom should not have no cost whatsoever, and yet our society is not as perfect to grant that rightfully because some will abuse that right. Sometimes having too much freedom can be a mad idea because people take advantage of it. Too much freedom can cause trouble and a chaos. Now of course everyone has the right to do what they want as long as it follows the law but then again as stated before too much freedom can cause chaos. People don't want to pay the cost because they feel that there's no point for it but to live it and move on.
Furthermore, people always thought freedom is another word for popular, people doing whatever and others snapping a picture as a memory. Looking at today's society there is barely any privacy, especially for famous people. It’s not for them only, there are normal human beings, like I am, that actually do have a hard time living their life but it’s not as it used to be, back in 9-11 days. Whenever they step outside they would get called terrorists compared to today's view people just want to stay inside and away from others. There are some that do want to feel big and just step out in the end but it won't make them a better person then their normal living neighbors. After all, there are ways to stop any mess going on.
There’s a difference between freedom and security and we are lucky to have both. Security is when you are protected by the right people and freedom, that’s in your hands. We can have built together a plan to make this world a better place, all it takes is hands to join one another. Not to invade people’s privacy but to make it a better environment with following the laws and knowing the limits.
