Civil liberties are more important than the nations security because we have lots of security like police officers and the military and the CIA and lots of other secret organizations protecting the nation but we have nothing that can really protect our privacy. Amendment IV states "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized" (BillOfRights.Org). This quote is stating that a national supporting group of Muslims filed a lawsuit against the New York Police Department for keeping surveillance of Muslims in New Jersey and the Muslims where right to sue the NYPD because they are racially profiling Muslims for past events that happened. Another quote stating why civil liberties is more important than national security is "According to documents the plaintiffs filed, the NYPD's surveillance program, which by its own admission has not yet led to a single conviction, "uses a variety of methods to spy on Muslims", such as pictures, video, and collecting license plate numbers of mosque congregants" (Luong). This quote says that according to documents the supporting group filed about the NYPD's surveillance program they used several methods to watch the Muslims like using photography, video, and
