A tragic event that could've been prevented if Rodney King wasn't speeding or drunk behind the wheel, but as he admits in the interview he was just getting his life back together as he just received a phone call that he could return to his construction job on Monday. However, he knew if he was stopped and be arrested because he was on probation and be right back where he started nowhere. We've all been in some sort of situation like that where we know we made a mistake, but we just want run to because you're just starting to get things back on track so we decided to run. His decision unfortunately almost cost him his life.
It was very chilling to listen to Rodney King recount the situation and the fact that it burned into his memory and he still has nightmares about the event and even have to wear a bulletproof vest because he always feared for his life 20 years after the American event. King’s ordeal sparked controversy because the American justice system failed in their duties …show more content…
to convict the officers of excessive force, which it was 55 blows with a baton and Taser was not at all necessary when making this arrest.
This was the start of people mistrusting the police, as their duties are to protect and serve the citizens in America and this situation was the total opposite of the oath officers take. I understand the outrage after the acquittal of the officers, but what I don't understand is the loss of innocent lives that were just in the wrong place at the wrong time most notably Reginald Denny who took one of the most brutal beatings that I've ever heard. Also the property damage was upwards of $1 billion I don't think wrecking your city and fighting and killing people doesn't get the correct message across it just escalates things and doesn't solve the problem that started the whole rampage in the first place.
I wish this whole situation didn't happen because everyone involved will now be defined by the riots and how it changed their lives forever.
King was able to find happiness as he married the juror in his civil case and finally found some happiness as he battled alcoholism the nightmares and addiction. He may not have the best person but I'm glad he found some happiness while he was alive. This situation taught us that we should take every person's life seriously no matter what they've done and to voice our displeasure in some other manner than destroying cities lives and reputations like law enforcement and many in the community
did.
