It’s important to know our history and what happened during that time. The significance/impact/benefit it would have on me and my community today would be for kids, teens, and adults today to know the importance of segregation and the leaders that fought for freedom and equality so that all kids no matter where they come from could get the same opportunities and experience the same things that others kids could as well. Segregation has helped shaped society in what it has become today. Even though segregation is an issue that was awful and hard for not only blacks but people of color, today it is still a topic that should be talked about in schools and throughout communities and neighborhoods. Leaders such as Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. all were important figures that fought for equality, justice, and an end to segregation. They put themselves and their lives on the line and did whatever it took to fight for what is right. Most importantly, they fought for change. As for my community today, I think that they are aware of this topic and what has happened, but not educated enough to know the significance of these
