People get trapped into slavery because they are vulnerable. Their poverty makes them desperate for work and food. Some women get tricked into slavery, when they flee their country looking for refuge and a job. They cannot speak the local languages or read so they are lured with fake contracts that they do not understand. When they sign the contract they have their passports taken away Most slaves are trafficked by their own desperate impoverished families. One women was tricked and trafficked into slavery by her own aunt. She ended up suffering terrible abuse in domestic slavery. “They’d chew meat and spit it on my face,” she says. “They would throw a plate full of rice on me. They would beat me up. They’d make me work from 5 a.m. to later than 1 a.m. the next day. And they didn’t pay me " (Survival). This is just one of the many stories. Domestic slavery is when a person (mostly women) are forced to work and labor in one's home. They are not allowed to leave the premise of the residence they are forced to labor in. Like in all types of slavery, they are afraid to leave because they are heavily threatened and all of their legal documents are taken
