According to miriam webster, the American Dream is defined as “a happy way of living that is thought of by many Americans as something that can be achieved by anyone in the U.S. especially by working hard and becoming successful”(the American Dream). Many Americans still try to achieve the idea of the American Dream, so in my opinion, it is still relevant. Living the American Dream is basically being successful and having a stable, happy life. Having a career, a family, a place to call home, and happiness is what everyone strives for. Living in the United States, the working class takes all of the crap from the government. The people who work hard to make a way for themselves and their families are the ones who do not get enough credit in this country. The working, middle class is completely overlooked and taken for granted. Everyone would like to think that by being a hardworking citizen, you would receive more benefits or get a little praise. I do not think it is fair to the people who risk everything to work hard and provide for their families. Everyone in the US should at least try to become a hardworking citizen and have some sort of goal for themselves. The American Dream is not an impossible goal to achieve, but with the government being so willing to hand things out to people who do not work hard, it makes the American Dream a pointless goal. Why would people want to try to become successful when they can scam our government into getting what they want for the price of nothing? As I said previously, the working class takes all of the heat. What I mean by this, is that people strive so hard to be good citizens and be loyal to our country and do their duties, but you always have a certain group of people who just expect things instead of working for them. The middle class pays tons of tax dollars that come from the checks that they work hard day in and day out for. Most of the tax money that is paid, goes toward government programs and people who refuse to get up and work. I am not saying that all people who get help from the government do not need it, but there are way too many people in our country who just use the system in any way they can to receive whatever they can.
