Why Is The First Amendment Important
I think the most important Amendment of all time would be the first Amendment. This freedom of religion, speech, assembly, and politics allows our country to be unique and protects our rights as American citizens. There are many current day issues that are driven by the first amendment. My first example I would like to talk about would be the anti-war movement. The first amendment allows we the people to protest and voice our opinions. Cindy Sheehan pleads with Bush for a meeting and accuses him of lying to the American people about Iraq's development of weapons of mass destruction and its connection to al Qaeda. The first amendment protects her rights to protest and voice her opinion and not be punished for speaking her mind. The second

The first amendment of the US Constitution has come into a lot of political controversy because it gives us some of the very essential rights to be whom we want to be. Under the first amendment we as United States citizens have the right to “freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble”, which some people don’t want us to have these rights and will try to come up with laws to restrain us from using them so it can benefit their cause (Ivers, 2013). I feel that the government wants to have the power to keep us in control and be able to do what they want, when they want with us.…

Francis Mejia Period 4 Many parts of the United States Constitution can be interpreted in different ways. This makes it difficult to make decisions on cases because of the many possible ways to look at what is constitutional and what is not. In every court decision, The Supreme Court must carefully analyze and interpret the amendments to the Constitution and apply them. The first Amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” One controversial case involving the rules of the First Amendment was Snyder v. Phelps in 2010.…

The First Amendment protects the rights of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right to petition the Government. These rights are some of the most important rights granted to Americans. Some may argue that the First Amendment is too protective of our rights. I tend to disagree; I think in order for our country to have a written explanation of what is or isn't protected the First Amendment gets the points across precisely.…

Limitations on freedoms of society are crucial, especially in America. As Roger Rosenblatt noted in his essay, “We Are Free to Be You, Me, Stupid and Dead,” many people express their freedom of speech in very offensive and controversial ways. Often their expressions violate other amendments and freedoms as well.…

In my opinion The Thirteenth Amendment was the most crucial amendment of the time because it abolished slavery altogether. According to the article “Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution(1868)” The amendment was so vital because the 1857 Dred Scott decision established the precedent that African Americans could not be American citizens. These Three Amendments changed the United states in a drastic way forever, they also assured privileges and amnesty clauses suitable for all…

Amendment one Think of the first amendment, what comes to mind? What liberties and independences were stated that still apply to America today? The first Amendment can be considered the most Amendment to Americans. Amendment one was published in the Constitution of the United States in 1789, and then it revised again in 1992. It states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances”.…

The second Amendment was ratified in 1791, so it’s been around for a long time. It actually has been around for 227 years. That’s why the second Amendment should stay and we should be guaranteed the rights of the second Amendment. The second Amendment of the U.S Constitution reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”…

I feel that the First Amendment (freedoms of speech, press, religion, petition, and assembly) is the most important constitutional amendment in the Bill of Rights. This is because the first amendment serves as an enabler of the discussion of other ideas, including the other constitutional amendments themselves without fear of negative consequence(s) from the government; most of the amendments, at least in the Bill of Rights, have controversy surrounding them; for example, the Fifth Amendment allows the government to take property if the owner is paid “just compensation”, and it will be used for a public use, which is called eminent domain. However, in some cases, people feel that the proposed use of their property is not actually to the…

The first amendment gives the right for every American to speak and think freely. It gives the American citizens a freedom of expression which is important in the educators and the students. In the education environment the first amendment allows students and educators to use or exercise their judgment and create learning environments that will be beneficial to the students and the school as a whole. In public schools the first Amendment is slightly changed, although it does not mean public schools don’t have first amendment rights, it means that since public schools are educational settings it must cover a broad range of subjects. The right of free speech is included in ways that does not interfere with the public schools goals.…

The Second Amendment to the constitution which grants citizens the right to bear arms with vague restrictions has become a topic of conversation throughout the years. Many people use this amendment to justify their vile behaviors while in possession of a firearm. The founding fathers created the second amendment to guarantee citizens protection from dangerous events such as slave revolts and Native American uprisings. Today, many people twist the second amendment to fit their own agendas of owning high power firearms and using them as means of “protection.” Since the Constitution was created to be flexible and essentially open to interpretation many issues such as gun control have become national debates. Due to the lack of detail in the second amendment; there should be strict government regulations outlining the requirements of obtaining and using a firearm.…

The worst that can happen is the 2nd Amendment will be violated. Some states have already violated the Amendment such as New York or California. The question to ask is where does it stop? However, Texas has always been very open to the 2nd Amendment and think it would be the last state to ever give up there guns. Background checks and a waiting period should be okay for any American because we have a society filled with unstable people. Every American should want to support the right to bare arms.…

The First Amendment states “ Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.“ This amendment prohibits the government from making a national religion as well as protecting those who practice any religion from Christianity to Judaism. This amendment was written on June 7, 1789 and ratified December 15, 1791. James Madison, include an attribute said “ The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretence, infringed.'' Freedom of Religion was important to our Founding Fathers. In Britain there was a lot of Religious Persecution in the 19th century. Many people were executed for practicing a religion other than Protestant. Clearly our founding fathers knew that something was wrong with that. Why should someone be killed for practicing a religion other than the one you personally believe…

The conceptualization that individuals have guaranteed rights bestowed upon them is absolutely fascinating. Unlike any other country, America is a completely free country. To know that the government will never infringe upon citizens’ rights is amazing. Civil liberties are gifts from God. They are liberties that are granted to each citizen of the United States of America that cannot be taken away from anyone or by anyone. The Bill of Rights was establish to list these specific guarantees of civil liberties that individuals of America are entitled to have, such as the second amendment.
