In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel, The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is portrayed as being an admirable, wealthy, kind, and genuinely impressive man. However, that being said, he is also portrayed as pretentious, deceptive, criminal, and most importantly to the plot, completely insatiable. Even though the novel’s narrator, Nick Carraway, heavily sympathizes with Gatsby, he has many character flaws that ultimately assure the failure of his “dream”, and even lead to his untimely demise.…

Gatsby never had many real friends, as he thought, but instead people who came along for the short lived dream Gatsby attained. Gatsby is struck with the awful pain of knowing that he has in a sense lost his dream, “So he gave up and only the dead dream fought on”(Fitzgerald 142). Gatsby has left no options for himself in the case that his one true dream does not turn out the way that he wants. As his dream begins to drift away so does the rest of his life because he has put all of what he wanted onto Daisy’s shoulder. Nothing is left for Gatsby to turn to because he never had stability in any aspect of his life. Due to his dream, Gatsby dies emotionally, which is then followed up by his real death. He made friends with those who did wrong without trying to change them. Sure, those are all valid points. The fact of the matter is; however, we are not saying Gatsby is Jesus or anything like that, but rather he is used a a representation and parallel. Perhaps everyone is just overthinking this? Warning random thought approaching: Ever heard of infinite monkey theorem? Probably not, it basically states that if an infinite amount of monkey could sit at a keyboard and type random characters there would eventually be such a combination that creates a masterpiece such as a Shakespeare or Fitzgerald writing. So maybe we are over analyzing this and Fitzgerald simply put together a piece of literature with such great symbols by accident and most likely, we will never…

I believe Jay Gatsby a character in this story, The Great Gatsby, is an admirable man. Nick tells Gatsby, “You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together” claiming that he’s worth more than all these ultra-rich people, including Daisy and Tom. Throughout the whole story, Gatsby, was the only one who stayed true to nick. Gatsby still pursued his dreams of repeating the past to have Daisy fall in love with him all over again; repeating the past is what Gatsby intends to do and believes it himself that its possible. Gatsby is very admirable because throughout the novel, he still has hope even though he knows that Daisy will not leave Tom for him, he still holds on to the only hope he has of his dreams that will never become reality. Especially when Gatsby took the blame for Myrtle’s death when it was really daisy’s, doesn’t just the love that he has for her but something that nobody would do which is really admirable. Taking the cover for someone else’s fault takes a lot of bravery. Taking the fault for a murder that wasn’t your own, merely nobody would want to even think about making that decision. That is why I admire Gatsby because of the man that he is. He is truthful and stayed true until his time came. He always had hope and kept his hope, yet he still never gave up knowing his dream could not come true. Gatsby is admirable and he is known to be worth more than all the stuck up rich people.…

Throughout the novel The Great Gatsby, as we hear Gatsby speak about his past, it is evident that he views it with a changing variety of feelings. The Great Gatsby was a good book. It was about a seemingly educated, wealthy, and perfect man who in the end, ended up actually living a scandalous life. He gained his wealth by illegal activities. There are still people today that gain their wealth by scamming and committing illegal actions. I felt sorry for Gatsby in the end, because he was madly in love with Daisy and he ended being killed for something he didn’t commit. Tom lied about who hit his lover because he was mad at Gatsby about the affair he was having with his wife. In my opinion, he was actually poor because he lacked the love that he wanted in life and he was lonely.…
