Orangutans are an endangered mammal species that lives on Indonesia and Malaysia. These majestic creatures are endangered for many reasons. The main reason the orangutans have become endangered because of the excessive logging in their habitat. These animals are one of the most important species in the rainforest environment. Orangutans are an essential part of keeping the rainforest alive because they spread seeds throughout the entire area where they live. A lot of other species has gone extinct because of mankind. The mighty orangutan isn't the most fit creature in the world, mainly because of the giving birth every 7 years and can only live in certain areas in the world. The total number of orangutans in the world is 1,500 to 27,000. This includes orangutans in the wild and also in captivity. This number was a lot larger in the past, it has dropped over 50%. Logging is a big threat towards the orangutan population, especially since orangutans rarely ever leave the safety of their nests in the trees. The trees are habitat; trees are their homes. Logging is a very big industry and can affect many plants and animals. The habitat of animals in the region will be affected in the worst way possible. One other reason for the endangerment is the fact that the people are hunting the animals. They are also taking the baby orangutans from the wild illegally.
