The penny is the coin with the least value, one cent. Making this one cent coin cost way more than it is worth. It cost about two dollars and fourty one cents to make a penny while it is only worth one cent, says “Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish?” Therefore, the United States is losing money. When you buy something and then get change, you could end up getting four pennies as changed. Sure that doesn’t sound like a lot right now but if you keep buying stuff, you'll get more and more pennies as change and it will get more and more heavy. All that extra weight isn't worth the amount the penny is worth. According to, “Is the Penny Worth It?,” pennies are “too heavy and are not cost-effective to ship.” In the military, they don't use pennies because they're too heavy, they use a rounding system. With the rounding system, you would either round the change up, or down depending on the price. For example, $9.06 would be rounded to $9.05 and $9.09 will you run into $9.10. It's easy. It works perfectly fine in the military, why don't we use it
