When one contemplates the feelings of Tim Burton, one normally thinks that his books and movies are dark, cruel, and spine-chilling, but nevertheless, almost everyone has found themselves sitting at home watching one of his movies, or nose deep into one of his many books. What is it that makes Tim Burton’s books so pleasing to the eye? Where do the dark, cruel and spin-chilling thoughts come from?
Tim Burton was born on August 25, 1985 in Burbank, California. Sadly, Tim was not one to fit in with other children; he was not very good in school, and even though he writes books now, in his childhood days he was not what we would call a bookworm (Stranier). Big Eyes is a story about an outsider that is looking to find acceptance in this world of hatred and rejection. Set in the 1950’s Big Eyes is one of Burton’s most realistic films and it is also a true story. Big Eyes is different from all the other Burton movies due the fact that “there are no ghosts, ghoulies or black-and-gray striped sweaters. No scissorhands, no Beetlejuices, no singing pumpkin heads” (Scott). However, with Burton stepping out of his comfort zone and creating a movie that does not show his usual, strange and gothic style ways of writing, the movie was still very intriguing (Scott).

However, Burton has been known to influence many fans, writers, and people who have never even read one of his fantastic books. Burton was a kid that was quiet and kept to himself most of his life. However, one can tell that in his many books and movies Burton shows us that the one who is socially awkward and an outcast can eventually find love from someone in society or just from society itself. “When you don’t have many friends and you don’t have a social life you’re kind of left looking at things, not doing things. There’s a weird freedom in not having people treat you like you’re part of society or where you have to fulfill social relationships” (Burton). Burton has also had an influence on the fashion industry, which comes off as hard to believe because Burton has found himself on the worst dressed list more than one would hope to be on it (Larocca). Many designers have been known to create elaborate, dramatic gowns that have taken place due to the landscape, characters and visions of Burtons work (Larocca). Burton’s work also influenced a jewelry designer by the name of Waris Ahluwalia who wears what he would call Burton-esque, a paved diamond tear drop brooches. Waris says “to me, the most beautiful thing is darkness – Paris-in-the-rain darkness – and that is Tim Burton”
