but it is also used to buy the materials needed to continue the business. The company also provides the appropriate training to the employees so they can continue to satisfy their customers with quality products and service. Walt Disney is such a successful company they began to pass on their expertise in customer service to other companies.
In this competitive world Walt Disney would be considered part of an Oligopoly.
There are not many competitors out there that can serve customers and provide quality products like Walt Disney. As Walt Disney continues to grow they are finding more ways to continually expand their business. The company began to branch out into other areas of the entertainment industry in the 1950’s. They started out with one theme park in California and then continued to build other theme parks around the world. Over the years Walt Disney has taken over many businesses in the entertainment industry, as well as develop its own businesses. Walt Disney has recently taken an interest in working with China in the movie-making industry because China has plenty of money to spend on producing more animated …show more content…
films.
Although all four factors of business environment play a part in Walt Disney’s growing business, the global environment seems to be main focus of expanding the company. They are continually working with other countries to provide their service and products around the globe. Since the first theme park was developed in 1955 they have opened new theme parks in the country of France and Japan. They are planning to open more theme parks in other countries. The next theme park that is currently being developed in China is scheduled to open toward the end of 2015.
The Nike Company has been working to reduce waste, improve environment, and reduce its carbon footprint. The company has reduced footwear waste by 50% since 1996. Before that time the waste from producing a shoe was about the weight of one shoe. Paging waste was also reduced by 30% with the help of using a smaller carton. Air quality has improved with reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 95% and 23% reduction of carbon dioxide. All these waste and toxic reductions is only a portion of the success they have had in helping the environment.
Since 1993 Nike continues to produce more sustainable products.
The company created a scientifically based system called Nike Environmental Design Tool. This tool measures the impact of materials on the environment. The product development department will use the tool to work with the designer to choose materials for their designs that are environmentally friendly. This will provide info to the designer on how their designs are reducing waste and the use of environmental materials. The next step is to work with the factory to figure out how much waste was reduced. After all the required information is entered into the tool, a score is calculated that helps the company determine the standard that is needed to create sustainable products. Nike is now sharing this tool with other companies because they would like to help the industry as a whole to reduce waste and environmental
impact.
Nike produces footwear that contains a rubber sole which reduces the toxins in the environment. Some footwear and apparel is produced using plastic bottles that are spun into polyester. The company also reduces its environmental impact within their administration buildings by using wind and solar power. Nike has come up with other ways to reuse their materials. The company created a project called ‘Reuse a Shoe’. Shoes are donated and then reproduced as floors that are used for sports purposes.
Even though Nike produces products with environmentally friendly materials, they do not advertise them that way. Creating sustainable products is something that will be an ongoing process so the company would rather keep their environmental efforts private. Nike believes that reducing and recycling as much waste as they can while producing products is what really matters.
