"Walt Disney"

Have you ever seen Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty or even Beauty and the Beast? If you have you may have immediately thought, those are Disney movies. Disney isn't just a name of a company; there is a person behind the name Disney. His name is Walter Elias Disney.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. Walt Disney was born to Elias and Flora Disney and had many siblings. Walt left high school in 1917 at the age of sixteen. He later attended classes the Kansas City Art Institute. Walt always wanted to be in the military. In 1918, Walt joined the American Ambulance Corps.

Margaret Winkler and her husband Charles Mintz had stolen the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. As well as stealing Oswald, they stole all of Walt's animators except for Iwerks. Walt, Roy, Ub and their wives created three short films starring a new character named Mickey Mouse. The first two were silent called plane crazy and the gallopin' gaucho. The third one that premiered was one of the first cartoons that had sound, and it was called Steamboat Willie. Mickey Mouse was an instant hit.

By this time, the Disney Brothers' studio had been re-named Walt Disney Productions. Disney had created a whole series with Mickey Mouse and some new friends who had been created as well such as Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy. The series was called Silly Symphonies. The silliy symphonies won Walt his very first Oscar for the first cartoon in color. The cartoon that one was called flowers and trees. In 1937, Walt Disney Production released the very first animated full length movie called Snow White and the Seven Drawrfs. Even during the Great Depression, the movie still made 1.499 million dollars and won eight
