The greatest catastrophe that can happen to human is war. It comes with death and destruction, disease and starvation, and poverty. Looking at the havoc caused in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan not many years ago, from this we can estimate the destructive effects of war. From history, war has been a recurrent phenomenon in many nations, there are wars lasting for a year even more than that (world word 2 lasted for six years). I will in addition go on to say that it is justifiable when diplomacy alone is not enough to protect a people from their destruction at the hands of an oppressive force. The debate on war has in the recent decade broken down to "Good/bad", and "Right/Wrong". This is not an appropriate way of way of viewing one of the most important elements of humanity. First of all, war is not a yes/no, always/never decision or circumstance. It is the escalation of force past the point of diplomatic intervention. It is never the same and always totally dependent on the people involved, the cultures and history of the region as well as the resources in contention.
We can date back and view many examples of when and if war is justifiable and you will see many different examples depending on where you stand. Let's take WWII. If you were American it was completely justifiable, because we were attacked, we helped to liberate many innocent people and we won.
