Why Joaquin Guzman Should Not Be Kept In Mexico

The infamous drug lord, Joaquin Guzman, also known as “El Chapo” was recently recaptured by Mexican authorities after he broke out of prison last year. Guzman, has a net worth of over $1 billion, is known as the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. Following an intense gunfight, Guzman was taken in by Mexican authorities from Sinaloa. He now awaits possible extradition to the U.S., but for now, Mexican authorities will try to keep him in jail. Guzman, who is the leading drug kingpin in the world, has proved to be a difficult man to keep behind bars as he has escaped from prison twice. Some questions that it raises are, will he be extradited and face justice in the U.S. or kept in Mexico, will he be held more securely in jail, and
One consequence that I foresee is that his arrest will lead a larger security presence the next time he is in jail as the Mexican officials will be more wary and will not want to be embarrassed again. This is in part due to his previous escapes, and his ability to bribe prison officials to aid his escape. Another consequence that I anticipate is that he will be taken to the United States, and will face justice there. This is because Mexico has been unable to hold “El Chapo”, and the United States has been waiting to prosecute him for all of the drugs that he has imported into America, the murders he has committed and all the lives he has ruined. Additionally, I think that actor Sean Penn and actress Kate del Castillo who were discovered to have interviewed Guzman in October, may face legal action because they knew where “El Chapo” but did not alert authorities. One final repercussion that I foresee is that the capture of the most powerful drug lord ever, may finally be the beginning of the end for the Sinaloa Cartel, and the drug trafficking world. The capture may give Mexican and U.S. officials a renewed sense of hope, and they may try and eliminate other high-ranking members of the drug world. However,
