The first main reason why not to have after school activities is because you have your own life after school. Some people may have a job, family occasions or issues may pop up, you could even be getting your hair or nails done if you want. Students young or older do have lives of their own. You don't want to be there any longer than you have to be; You've been there for 6 hours and some change, and you're exhausted from a long day of work. By the way, you're hungry too. In the end, you just are worn out by being in the same place for 6 hours out of the day, attending 5 days a week. I am pretty sure no one wants to be there for any longer than they need to. An extracurricular activity is not needed to go to the next grade, work in the classroom is.
Someone forcing more activity on your after school life isn't a good idea. Having plans already planned, having homework, meaning less sleep time, and just being there for more time than you want to, are great reasons not to have extracurricular activities after school mandatory. No one wants to be pressured into doing anything. So why put it on someone who can't refuse to that thing? It's not like you need to be part of an activity to go to do anything in
