Research paper on stealing.
Why do people steal?
There are many reasons why people steal. They are hungry, they love the thrill or they rationalize that they deserve the item. In the first case of hunger, that is something that the law can be forgiving because if you don’t eat, you die. Now moving on to the thrill of stealing, and it’s connected to pleasure by the center of the brain, and is pushed to the limit connecting to sex or eating. I am of course speaking about endorphins. But then there’s the person that says in their mind “dang it, I want that, but I don’t have enough money, well, no one’s looking should I just take it?” Now with this mind set the person is always in the wrong. However, the answer isn’t really that simple. In my research, I have found there are four major groups of thieves. There is the person in need, the thrill seeker, one who that doesn’t care, and the one that thinks they deserve what they stole.
“Thou shall not steal are very strong” words but they are not so easy to follow. If someone asked you to you steal some bread you would say no. However, what if your mother was starving about to die from hunger or said “my children haven’t had any food for three days!” You may have a change of heart! This happens a lot due to high homeless rates. In the U.S. the hungry people out there don’t do big crimes just something small so that they can eat today or bring something to their kids that are hungry and crying. I know this from my observations I saw every now and them a man that just has a real old BIG GULB cup trying to fill it with soda at the H E B restaurant when no one is looking, just so that he wound die of thirst out in this hot Texas sun that we all live under, or the woman in the store with no shoes just trying to sneak a few grapes to fight the hunger pain’s I now that in the past I have had to steal to eat. These are just some flowery words however looking
