Driving your car to a dinner with friends you go by hundreds of advertisement slogans at the side of the road. Reading them seems to be a good way to entertain your mind with all those miles ahead and since you didn't decide what are you going to order yet you think that maybe some of them will give you an idea. One of them captures your attention in a special way, it shows the image of a laughing sheep and below it says: “Meat is real food”. Eureka! Now you have a guess of what your order will be, but as long as you keep thinking in this phrase you wonder what they meant with the word “real”. If they are stating such a thing it means that they also believe that there is other food that is not real or not as real as meat. A second thought crosses your mind when you remember a column you read in the newspaper a few days ago which was titled as followed: “Studies have found that the consumption of meat and animal products increase the development of chronic diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, obesity, kidney failure, osteoporosis and cancer”.…

it takes 4500 acres to produce 80,000 pounds of meat the average american eats 209 pounds of meat per year. if that was all grass fed beef only 382 people could eat that meat. 11.7 acres per person times 314 mil acres in usa which adds up to 3.7 billion acres to raise enough grass for that year and this is only grass fed beef. we would need 3.9 billion acres unfortunately there are only 1.9 billion acres in the us it would take 3 times the amount. so grass fed beef is not sustainable. there is no way to we could use grass feed all the time. We just don't have enough land to use. even if we did we would still be using it all…

In modern day American culture, variety meats are rarely found on the menu. If a variety meat such as cow tongue or chicken liver does find its way onto the table, most people refuse to touch it. Americans miss out on a large portion of valuable meat because they eat mainly the lean muscle. When we process a hog or a cow, we usually harvest the internal organs to be packaged and sold to other countries that consume variety meats. Other cultures prepare variety meats such as heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, tripe, and sweetbread in different ways, and these are often staples and delicacies.…

The consumption of meats dates back to our ancient predecessors dwelling amongst the land and early Native American tribes. The earliest forms of hunters and gathers believed strongly in all an animal had to offer, even after it was deceased. Once an animal was hunted they used each part of the animal so its life was not wasted unnecessarily. According to the Native Languages of the America, “Whether they were farming tribes or not, most Native American tribes had very meat-heavy diets.” (Native Languages of the Americas, 2011) This heavily laden diet led to other uses of their animal kill such as shelter and clothing.…
