Why School Should Start Later
Why School Should Start Later Do you ever wake up and feel miserable, cranky, and so tired you just want to sleep forever. For me and most adolescence this is the case. I strongly feel that school should start later in the day at a time where kids are at their best and so that the can actually learn the things that they are taught. Both teachers and students can benefit if it were to start later. In my opinion it makes more sense to start and 9:30 rather than 8:30 or in some schools earlier. I believe that schools would have a much greater uptake in academic performance here’s why. Did you know your sleep cycle changes as you get older, and in the teens years sleep is absolutely crucial. But sadly kids these days aren’t getting the 8 and a half to more than 9 hours of sleep that is highly recommended. This is due to the fact that they can’t sleep whenever they want. They have places to be and things to do. And one of those things is school 5 days a week around 7 hours long. School is very important and something students strive to do well at. However, if a student isn’t getting enough sleep they have a harder time staying awake in class and focusing. Have your parents ever told you that in your sleep you grow. This is very true but it only happens …show more content…
Yeah, that’s really common in my world and in other peoples. Rushing to get ready can cause a lot of stress and stress before school even starts is unnecessary. Stress of not having everything you need, missing the bus, getting in trouble because you’ve already been late several times. All this just adds up and during the teen years where emotions are high this can cause a mental break down. These are reasons why kids are often late to school. But if you open your eyes you can see it’s easily

I believe that school should stay the way it currently is. With school the way it currently is students still have time after school. Students will still have time for sports after school and other school related functions. If school started later in the day and ended later students wouldn't have hardly any time after school for things such as sports, socializing, and spending time with there families. Which is hard sense some of their transportation is relied on the buses or the case of their parents pulling them out of school to make sure they get to where they need to be at the specific time. I know after school I have do home work chores, which it takes almost a hour and half just to do it. Also on Wednesday I attend a therapy class with my friend; so I can give moral support her and also so I cant talk about my feeling/ problems as well. Second reason that school shouldn't start later is a horrible choice to make is because it limits the amount of time that we can do homework at home. Every night about 50 percent of my time is devoted on doing my homework and studying for any up coming tests.…

This once happened to me, I was waiting to go to preschool at my grandma's but my aunt forgot to pick me up so my mom had to leave work to pick me up and take me to school. If we were to have later school starts then our parents would have to change their schedules for work and their activities after work. If we started school at noon then our parents would have to leave work to take us to school or make sure we got to school on time and that will take time out of their day. Not only that but if we were to start school later and you are a student that likes to do after school activities then they will be much harder for you to do.…

If only they went to bed earlier, concentration and attentiveness would improve. But in their report, the researchers say the schools are ignoring adolescent biology and are “systematically restricting the time available for sleep and causing severe and chronic sleep loss.” They're not alone. The chorus of voices in favor of schools starting later had been getting louder. In August, the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) issued findings that lay out a stark and sobering picture of how sleep deprivation harms teenagers, a common problem among high school students especially, adolescents who don't get enough sleep (CDC recommends 9-10 hours) have an increased risk of being overweight, suffering depression, and struggling academically.…
