Why School Should Start Later
How many of you would like to get better grades in school? How many of you would like to be able to participate in more after school activities? Well one way both of those things could happen is by making school start at nine o’clock. When you make school start later students could participate in after school activities, they would get better grades, and less students would be sleep deprived. All middle schools and high schools should start at nine o’clock. If school started at nine o’clock then students would be able to participate in more after school activities without having to stress about finishing their homework. After school a lot of students can get stressed about trying to finish their homework and do their after school activities but if school started later then students could stay up later to finish their homework because they know they can sleep in in the morning. I’ve ran into this problem before because after school I have to go to soccer practice which takes up a lot of time then I have to go home and finish homework while still trying to go to bed at a reasonable time. If school started later then I could stay up late and finish my homework because I know I could sleep in. …show more content…
According to the Los Angeles Times it states, “Repeated studies also show that when the school day starts late and teens get more sleep, both grades and standardized test scores go up.” When students can sleep in they would focus more after school on their homework instead of rushing to just get it done. When you focus more on school work you understand it better which helps your grades to get better. Also, if school started later then students would get more sleep which would make less students fall asleep during class and they would be more alert which would also make grades get
