A main reason for schools to start later is the mental health of students. As a study shows, a later start of a school day will not affect the sleeping time of students, but when they wake up (School Start Times). This means that students will get more sleep which will allow them to focus more in class, and be less tired at the end of the day. More sleep also allowed for less tardies, academic improvement, and less sleepiness (Start Times). Due to these things, students are learning more, and are setting a path to a better future that lays ahead. However, academic improvements are not the only reason schools should start later.
