Why School Should Start Later
Every student has had the unpleasant experience of waking up while it is still dark in order to get to school on time. Most children get up at unreasonably early times for school every morning. In order to get up on time, some people go out of their way by setting multiple alarms that are not always effective. It is especially difficult to wake up when you were up late the night before due to sports, extracurriculars, and homework. There is a solution to this problem. Schools can simply change the time the school day begins and ends. I strongly believe that all schools should be required to begin at a later time.
Students would get much more out of their education if they acquired the proper night’s rest. Everyone can admit that they perform better when they are well-rested. Unfortunately, that is not an

A serious threat to the health of students everywhere is rapidly increasing. More than eighty-seven percent of high school students are affected by sleep deprivation, a risk to their mental and physical health. Sleep deprivation can actually lead to anxiety, depression, and suicide attempts. These concerns can be prevented with a simple change. A lack of sleep impairs learning, memory, attention, and the overall well-being of a student. If there is no modification to the school system, the grades of intelligent students will plummet frankly from their shortage of sleep. Of course, some people will argue that starting later will not give kids enough time to participate in their extracurriculars that are held after school. If this becomes a problem, a later start time will give kids more leeway. Getting to bed so late will not do as much damage because the child would not have to wake up as early.
