Why Should Animal Testing Should Be Legal?

In recent years there has been a debate over whether we as a society should continue testing on animals. It seems for many this topic has quite a moral grey area. Some see it as something that is necessary in order for scientific research. Many of our scientific achievements of the last century have involved animal testing in some way. Others however see it as something that is wrong and unethical and feel like it should be abolished. Organizations such as PETA have developed, arguing that animals should have the same rights as humans. Many organizations have been developed to defend both sides of the argument. I however believe, that there is no question that animal testing must be legal. One of the biggest reasons why animal testing should be legal is because many of the scientific discoveries made in the last century have used some form of animal testing. Studies have shown that since the past century the human lifespan has increased by almost 20 years. However, I fell this argument is irrelevant to the topic because if there going after animal testing just because they think its wasteful then they should tackle other areas first. It is estimated that 100 million animals die each year from animal testing including all types of animals even mice. However, it is estimated that in the United States 56 billion animals are killed a year for food consumption. Considering that right now America is said to waste about 35 to 40 percent of its food it’s easy to see that farming is the bigger culprit of senseless animal death. I believe using this as an argument is unfair unless you show how animal lives are wasted in other aspects in society as
