Many students would like to but there isn't enough time in the day after homework. Kids are in school anywhere from six and a half to seven hours a day! With the amounts of homework that they are given a night, it wears them out! This leads to playing poorly due to lack of sleep and stress. Not only do they have to go to every game, but there's also practices just about every night until eight o'clock at night. Clubs have the same effect. After school, they have clubs and things to do for these clubs outside of school. There's only so much a student can take in. But yet all our parents and teachers encourage students to get out there and interact with people. It's overwhelming and stressful. According to Mary Coleman a school guidance counselor at Lisbon Regional School, she has no preference on whether we should or shouldn't get rid of homework. She does believe that homework can impact a student in a negative way if they do not have good homes or environments. “Students and kids may be poor and homeless, living in extremely difficult conditions. We have students living in one bedroom apartments with six or more people. They don’t have a place to study. We have kids living in homes where they witness adults doing drugs or are witnessing domestic violence. Students living in such difficult situations cannot compete with students coming from homes where education is supported.” When asked about how many students she gets in her office complaining about the stress from homework she replied with “I think most students complain about homework. All kids hate homework but practicing academic skills is important. It is hard for those students who are living in poor conditions because they do not have the opportunity to practice and when they are behind it can lead to depression and anxiety.” How can we help students who are struggling with this
