If parents chose not to vaccinate their children, they need to understand the risks they are taking, not just with their own children but others as well and the issues this can cause. Some of the issues are sick children missing school and parents missing work to care for their children, not mention the toll on the people suffering the disease, which could result in deafness, paralysis, other physical disabilities or even death. This has the potential to cause harm to many and perhaps even cause deaths. There is no medical reason for parents not to vaccinate their children. Meyer also makes the plea, “Parents, take this important step [vaccinate your child] to ensure the health of your child and those around them. Don’t delay” (Meyer, et al). The study done by Dr. Wakefield has been disproved not only by other studies but also by the numbers of infectious diseases that are resurfacing among unvaccinated children and adults. This weakens herd immunity and proves to be a danger to our general population.
