This article talks about a gunman that was dressed from head to toe in a burqa and sunglasses, successfully robbing a cash courier. The man escaped without a trace and since the burqa is the most concealing of all Islamic veils, it left just a mesh screen as to what the burglar looked like. The man had approached the cash courier whilst he was parking his car in a car park and pointed a pistol directly at him demanding for him to hand over the money or get shot, the man was then handed the money and fled with a large amount of cash
Australia is a free country, this means that the people who live here have every right to express their opinion, culture and style as long as it is not offensive or degrading, therefore an individual has the right to choose what they want to wear regarding culture. No one should dictate how you live your life and most importantly limit or influence your preferences in this case regarding clothing. For example the government should not be able to ban jeans because the political party in power dislikes it.
The development of law reform in regards to wearing the burqa for individuals will allow for justice to be achieved as it will give the freedom for women to whom wish to wear the burqa, to be able to practice their religion freely without being questioned or harassed.
Banning the burqa will take out the essence of justice in Australia as it will not allow people to freely do whatever they want to do, or practice their religion how they would like to. To conclude, everyone should have a right to express themselves through what they wear as long as it is not offensive, and if these laws were to pass for the banning of the burqa, it would have an extremely negative effect to achieve justice for Muslim women but at the same time it would benefit the safety of the society by society knowing what the person that just walked past them looked like.
