Why Should The Confederate Flag Be Banned

Do you realize the Confederate flag is a part of history? Are you aware the constitution gives us the freedom of speech? Did you know the meaning behind the Confederate flag my not be what you thought it meant? All of the answers to these questions may be different than what you originally thought. The Confederate flag may be banned because many people around the country don’t know the truth about this controversial issue. All things considered, the Confederate flag should continue to fly because the flag is a part of history. David French wrote, “Rather, we use history to understand our nation in all its complexity acknowledging uncomfortable realities and learning the difficult truths,” in an article he wrote called, “Don’t Tear Down the Confederate Battle Flag.” People can’t forget our country’s history of slavery because that part of history needs to be remembered. Since history cannot be changed, we should not pretend like slavery, etc., hasn’t ever happened before.
The very first amendment of the constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This states that we the people, have freedom of speech which means we can express who we are, however we want to do that.
