However, the footer used on the secondary pages uses a red-green color scheme. Because this color combination is the most problematic, it is recommended that the footer be redesigned using a different color combination. Finally, all uses of color to communicate a message need an alternate method provided. For example, the budget page uses red text when indicating negative numbers. This page should also include parentheses and a negative number sign, for example, (-144.29). Otherwise, color blind people will not be able to distinguish between negative and positive numbers.…
Have you ever been at a red light and been annoyed at how long you have been standing at it? Well, it turns out that on average, a person spends about six months of his or her life just waiting for those lights to turn green.…
The “Stop for Pedestrians” advertisement, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, demonstrates an extremely effective way to caution drivers when they decide to go behind the wheel. The success of the public service announcement is accomplished through the use of visuals and exaggeration.…
If you are planning to drive your 1950 Chevy truck on public highways you will need turn signals, that should be visible to traffic. Large and brilliant blinkers.…
Railroad crossing may seem extremely simple at first; however, their are a few factors that come into play that you may not be aware of. You should use extreme caution at all railroad crossings. They are warning devices that inform you of upcoming railroads and trains. Advance warning signs are posted before railroad crossings to allow you to prepare for them. The pavement also is painted to warn you of upcoming railroads.…
There have been major accidents throughout the United States that have produced over 100,000 crashes and roughly 1,000 deaths in the past. In 1979 Ken Fishel was at the intersection of 436 and highway 50 when a woman ran a red light causing him to T-Bone the passenger side of her vehicle. Ken ended up with serious injuries consisting of whip lash and a mild concussion to the head. While the women escaped the accident with minor injuries this could been easily prevented (interview). To combat this problem the United States has placed Red light cameras at certain intersections across the states. Safety should always be the top priority on the road, and one way of limiting car accidents is for everyone to make sure they always stop at a red light. Since these cameras have been in place accidents and death tolls have decreased tremendously. The government should continue the use of red light cameras at intersections throughout the United States.…
People are now growing up with the assumption that it is a good thing to be colorblind, which means not judging someone based on their race.…
In America the color the represents death and mourning is black but in china it is white. Imagine a Chinese man coming to a funeral in America, that person would experience a major culture shock because the meaning we have applied to black is to symbolize death, but in his culture white would be that color. Even though symbols can bring about problems through misinterpretations, one can say that it is also beneficial to us. Instead of writing stop, come, or go we can relate those commands to images or signs that provide the actions…
70 to 80% of red light runners go through red lights within the first second after the light turns red. Studies in Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Virginia show significant red light violation drops after extending the yellow signal time on intersections. Also, camera manufactures claim that existing systems in operation can have from 4 to 40% false positives daily, costing innocent drivers millions of dollars yearly.…
Evidence of the number of fatalities of running red lights was found on MDOT (Mississippi Department of Transportation) website. “According to data from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), a total of 7,799 lives were lost from red light running between 2004 and 2013 across the nation.” I know the numbers are small compared to some of the other leading causes of death, but that number could be smaller or even non-existent if we just paid attention and slowed down. More evidence was found on MDOT’s website about the fatality numbers. “In 2013 alone, 679 people were killed and an estimated 127,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light running.” This number shouldn’t be that high. Slowing down for a bus is not that hard or time-consuming it’s one of the easiest things you can do no and lives should be lost at all. These numbers should be a wake up call for you. It’s a topic that shouldn’t even be relevant to the world because of how easily avoidable it is. Just remember, next you see a bus at a stop stop your vehicle and wait because whatever event or place you have to go to can wait. No event is worth someone’s…
